It was another frigid dark morning and we were partaking of our morning libations after another night of protecting the land of the free from the evil ones behind the curtain of iron during that coldest of wars. We be in the grand bastion of the North Castle Thule on the Isle of Green, a place so North that compass points west and the Winter nights lasted three months. My fine companions those two grand warriors and submariners extraordinare Arturo "Smokey" Piazza, Member of the Legion of Merit, Order of the Purple Heart (5 awards) and veteran of eleven war patrols during the Grand War and Chief Earl of White veteran of three war patrols during the Grand War. In a ceremony that was simple yet deeply moving these Grand warriors of the Sea granted me the title Sergeant d' Pleiku. A most noble of titles I carry to this day.
